Camping is still a bit of a new adventure for us… well, for one of us anyway!

Jen is officially the camping rookie of the family, with only two camping trips under her belt so far. She’s definitely more accustomed to resort stays, comfy beds and holidays where someone else does the cooking, so swapping all of that for tents, campfires and life outdoors has been an adventure in itself.

We’re certainly not here to pretend we’re camping experts. We’re learning as we go, figuring out what works for our family and, most importantly, making some pretty great memories along the way.

So whether you’re a seasoned camper or, like Jen, still wondering just how much “comfy stuff” you can reasonably fit in the car, come along and see how our camping adventures unfold.

We love the big attractions too, but there’s something pretty special about finding that little local shop, unexpected lookout, quirky roadside stop, family-run business or beautiful spot that makes you say, “How did we not know about this?”

Finding these places has become one of our favourite parts of exploring. We’ll happily take a recommendation from a local, wander into somewhere because it looks interesting, follow a sign just to see where it leads or add an unplanned stop to the itinerary - although Jen may need a moment to adjust the plan first!

And sometimes the hidden gem isn’t hidden at all. It might simply be somewhere that deserves a little more attention than it gets.

These are the places we find ourselves talking about afterwards, recommending to friends and often making a point of visiting again.
